The Balmoral Hotel
The Balmoral is a luxury five star hotel in the very heart of Edinburgh. It's situated at the East end of Princes Street on the corner with the North Bridge, right besides Waverley railway station. It's thus located right beside the Princes Street shopping area and within a short walk of both the Royal Mile and the New Town.
History
The Balmoral Hotel opened in 1902 as a railway hotel called the North British or just NB and the clock in the tower is still kept two minutes fast to help ensure travellers catch their trains. Today it's undergone a complete refurbishment and is part of the Rocco Forte Collection. The Balmoral has a total of 168 luxury rooms ranging from "Classic Double" to "Superior Deluxe King". There are also 20 suites available which are categorised as "Classic", "Deluxe", "Grand" and "Royal". The magnificent Royal Suite covers 140 square metres (1507 square feet) and includes a king size bed, walk in dressing rooms and a mosaic and marble bathroom. Advertised nightly room rates currently (May 2010) run from just over £300 for a Classic Double up to £1365 for the Royal Suite (prices are higher than this during August). Special package deals are also available including the Gourmet Experience, Simply Romance and Unforgettable Family Affair.
For dining the Balmoral provides the number one restaurant. The number one is overseen by Executive Chef Jeff Bland and Head Chef Craig Sandle. The restaurant has a reputation as one of Scotland's best and this is backed up by its Michelin Star.
