The George Hotel

The George Hotel is one of Edinburgh's many fine luxury hotels. The George is, as its name suggests, situated in George Street - just to the North of Princes Street. It's on the doorstep of most of the New Town shopping and a short walk to the Old Town and the Royal Mile.

The George Hotel boasts a Grade 2 listed facade, the buildings dating back to 1775 when it consisted of three houses. The houses were converted for use as a hotel in 1881. The George recently underwent a £20 million refurbishment programme and in 2009 was voted Best Edinburgh Hotel at the Scottish Hotel Awards. It's currently run by the Principal Hayley Group.

The 250 rooms range from "Standard" through to "Premium Deluxe" and there's also a single suite available. Online booking prices currently (May 2010) start at just over a hundred pounds per night. The Hotel also offers special package deals including Theatre Packages, Indulgent Romantic Breaks and a Pamper Package. Weddings are also catered for by a dedicated department. For business the George offers eight conference and event suites with seating for up to 300 delegates.

The George is also home to the EH2 Tempus Restaurant and bar.
